Getting to Fleet Pond is quite easy, and there’s dedicated car parking just off the A3013 ‘Bramshot Cottages’. As you drive along the A3013 there is a sign for “Fleet Pond” indicating a side-road over the railway line (see map). Alternatively you can access the pond from the west side via Wellington Avenue and Chestnut Road, but parking is limited to 2 hours. Not that this is a problem because a leisurely stroll around the pond only takes 60 to 70 minutes. A good path is laid out around the circumference, with several lakeside platforms providing views out over the pond, as well as places to feed the swans, geese, ducks and other wildlife (see my pictures for these feathered friends).
During my visit there was evidence of the conservation project with two giant diggers clearing the silt. Thankfully this didn’t spoil the views, and it was encouraging to see the work being done.
For an enjoyable local walk I’d certainly recommend visiting Fleet Pond.
